After 35 years of success in integrated international community development work, Los Niños introduces Via International and launches the Via Institute for Community Development and Volutourism. Through the Via Institute, years of experience is now being shared globally with other organizations, communities, and institutions through valuable training, exchange, partnership, capacity building, experiential learning, and special program opportunities.

Promotoras Project

Through our innovative promotoria (community outreach) initiative, Via International and Los Niños have been able to support the development of promotoras (female outreach workers) and assist them in breaking the cycle of poverty and improving quality of life for themselves, their families, and their communities.

In collaboration with the Universidad Iberoamericana Noroeste of Mexico, women who have had little access to education are supported through a training program and guided to design, develop, implement, and evaluate a community project. Upon successful completion of the program, they can complete their primary and secondary education while also receiving a university credential in community development.

The program has given more than 200 outreach workers the opportunity to secure a higher level of education with graduates continuing on to university studies, securing employment, starting their own businesses, and further serving their community.

Via International is a 501(c)3 service organization based in California. Dedicated to building "paths to self-reliance for an interdependent world," Via International has more than 35 years of experience addressing community needs by supporting community members to become agents of positive change. Emerging from the communities, programs are designed to improve quality of life through nutrition and ecology training, community leadership education and microcredit and microenterprise support. Voluntours programs offer educational travel and service learning opportunities to engage with community development initiatives. The Via Institute provides a framework to nourish personal development, foster community engagement, strengthen organizations, and promote global dialogue.
