49th Chicano Park Day, Saturday April 20th 2019, 10 am to 5 pm “Danzantes, Protectors of Our Traditions and Chicano Park: 500 Years of Anti-Colonial Struggle”

Established by Chicano activists on April 22, 1970, Chicano Park has received international recognition as a major public art site for its commanding mural paintings of the past and present

struggle of Mexican and Chicano history. Chicano Park has been listed on the Historical Landmark Registry (San Diego Historical Resources Board) since 1980, the California Register of Historical Resources since 1997, on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 and designated a National Historic Landmark on December 23, 2016.


Visitors to Chicano Park Day will experience traditional music and

dance, including one of the most beautiful performances of Aztec

Indigenous dance, coordinated by Danza Azteca Calpulli Mexihca.

The event will include performances by Ballet Folklórico

CalifAztlán, Ballet Folklórico Aztlán de CSUN, La Rondalla

Amerindia , Mujeres en Resistencia, DJ Rambo, Chocolate

Revolution, Santana Para Ti, Tall Can, Ruby Clouds, Karina Frost

& The Banduvloons, Gilberto Rodriguez & Los Intocables,

Quetzalcoatl Band, DJ Viejo Lowbo, and Pancho Villa’s Skull, and

speakers representing the Chicano Park Steering Committee,

Brown Berets de Aztlán, Amigos Car Club, and Via International.

In addition, there will be a display of more than 300 classic lowrider

cars presented by Amigos Car Club, children’s art workshop and

various informational booths. Food, and arts and crafts vendors
