Micro-Enterprise and Micro-Credit
Woman Entrepreneur of the Year!

We first met Elizabeth in Tijuana in 2011...a young mom with a basic education and a great recipe for delicious salsa that her friends had raved about for years! When she learned of the opportunity to get a small loan through Via’s Micro-Credit program to launch her business idea and improve her family’s economic stability, she jumped at the chance

With the first loan for $250, Elizabeth purchased what she needed to increase her salsa production, and Pico Machin was born! After paying back her initial loan, she was eligible to take another, and did so, 23 times! Each time she invested in more and better equipment to make her business grow, all the while receiving support and guidance from program staff and community members in her loan group.

Now flash forward to 2018. Elizabeth just returned from a business skills seminar where she won Woman Entrepreneur of the Year! Her tasty snacks are now distributed throughout Tijuana and Pico Machin is looking to export to the US market! Pico Machin’s delicious spicy peanuts, dried bananas, and salsas are now known throughout the region. If all goes well, they might soon be found at a market near you!

“To the people contributing to this program, who are helping small businesses, your support is helping us grow as entrepreneurs. We might not know you personally,
but we thank you for believing in us!  - Elizabeth
